Chord Trends

How specific chord progressions track across years, eras, albums, and songwriters. Lets you see when a pattern first entered the Beatles' vocabulary (e.g. which year did vi-IV-I-V first show up?), which writer favored it, and whether usage tapers off later in the catalogue. Y-axis is percent of that slice's songs containing the pattern, so curves stay comparable across buckets of different sizes.

Patterns

Y-axis = percentage of that bucket's songs that contain the progression. Lines drop to 0 where the bucket has no songs using the pattern. Toggle patterns on/off above; switch dimensions to slice by year, era, album, or songwriter. Tag [d] = degree (key-independent),[s] = shape (transposed to common root), [l] = literal (exact chords).
