It is in the words of twelve songs, across almost the whole of the band's recording life, 1963 to 1970. 'Roll Over Beethoven' opens the run and 'Across the Universe' closes it. 'Long Tall Sally' ('Long, tall Sally') and 'I've Just Seen a Face' are two of them. More of them come from 1967 on than from the first four years, eight against four. Lennon wrote seven of the twelve, including 'It's Only Love' and 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', 7% of his songs against 3% of McCartney's. On 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer': 'silver', 'Maxwell', 'majoring in medicine'. On 'Across the Universe': 'Possessing and caressing' and 'inciting and inviting'. Of those, 'It's Only Love' was made with tremolo, one of only four of their recordings made that way.
