Spoken word

Speech embedded in the recording as a textural element.

29
songs
The spoken word is on 29 Beatles recordings, across almost the whole of the band's recording life, 1963 to 1970. 'I Saw Her Standing There' is the earliest, from 1963, and 'Two of Us' the last, from 1970, with the Let It Be album leaning on it hardest, four of its twelve tracks. More of them come from 1967 on than from the first four years, 24 against two. John sings lead on ten of them, Paul on eight, George on three and Ringo on three. On 'Revolution 9' it is Lennon, Ono, Harrison, Alistair Taylor, George Martin. On 'Helter Skelter' it is Ringo's "blisters on my fingers" outro shout.
